Guillemot and Martinez revealed as much during Ubisoft’s last quarterly financial conference call for investors and analysts, saying that Assassin’s Creed Origins had a great show at E3 2017, but the fans’ and press’ anticipation for the title is still well below the excitement for installments like Unity and Black Flag, which caused the company to be “conservative” in its estimates. Even so, that doesn’t mean the publisher and developer expects poor sales overall, as Guillemot believes it has “big sales potential” that can best the precursor Assassin’s Creed Syndicate.
While Ubisoft’s CEO and CFO remain cautious in their predictions for Assassin’s Creed Origins’ sales, it’s quite possible that the company’s executives are underestimating the forthcoming sequel’s abilities to have an absolutely outstanding performance in the market. After all, Origins was the most talked about game at E3 2017, indicating that there’s definitely a high amount of interest in the title. Of course, one could also argue that even though the sequel was discussed at length by loads of people during the event, the talk could have included an equal or greater amount of negativity regarding the release.
All things considered, only time will tell whether or not Ubisoft’s predictions for Assassin’s Creed Origins’ sales will come to pass, as there are still several more months left to go before it hits store shelves. Not to mention, fan interest in the series’ next entry could actually reach an all-time high, especially since the franchise took a break in 2016.
Assassin’s Creed Origins is set to launch on October 27, 2017 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
