Eurogamer recently spoke with Assassin’s Creed’s Marc-Alexis Cote about what exactly Infinity is. The long and short of it is that it’s essentially a launcher, somewhere where fans of the franchise will be able to access and buy all future games. Mirage is not part of the Infinity project, with the first games being Red and Hexe. Accessing them via Infinity will supposedly increase the discoverability of the various titles, alongside other benefits. For example, it was confirmed Infinity would house the modern-day story, and it seems the hub is also bringing back Assassin’s Creed multiplayer in some way, while also potentially bringing in more Crossover Stories.

For all the support Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has received since launch, one of its most popular was the free Crossover Stories DLC. This allowed players to return to AC Odyssey, see how Kassandra (or Alexios, had they chosen him) chooses to live out their immortal life, and then return to Valhalla and meet them as Eivor. Given Kassandra is the longest-living Assassin in the franchise, the sheer potential for Crossover Stories is unmatched. Many fans have hoped for an Assassin’s Creed Origins crossover, where Kassandra meets Aya, but that doesn’t seem to be in the works.

That doesn’t mean it effectively won’t be one day. When asked if this was possible in Assassin’s Creed Infinity, Cote answered affirmatively and revealed he wants Ubisoft to “do more to cross over between our different games…it was fun to see people so engaged with the character of Kassandra…I think we have such an engaged community that we should provide them with more free products and free experiences, and Infinity is a perfect vessel for us to be able to do that.”

For those curious as to why there hasn’t already been a Crossover Story for Assassin’s Creed Origins, it comes down to technical limitations. Origins was archived internally at Ubisoft and resurrecting those development pipelines would be a considerable amount of work. Because of the pandemic, Odyssey was never really “closed,” so to speak, making this crossover with Valhalla much easier to accomplish. Fingers crossed, however, that while AC’s future is looking brighter in many ways, it doesn’t forget the “past.”

Assassin’s Creed Infinity’s first projects, Red and Hexe, are in development.
