According to Asmongold, the primary reason that he began streaming on Twitch was the ability to work from home and earn money from subscribers and donations. He made this decision in order to stay at home with his mother who was sick for a long time before passing away recently. Although many Twitch streamers struggle to think of what they would be doing if they hadn’t turned to livestreaming, Asmongold had a good idea of where he would be without his Twitch community and it’s different from what many fans would expect.

Asmongold has become one of Twitch’s top-earning livestreamers, but if he wasn’t a Twitch streamer, Asmongold has stated that he would probably be living off government welfare. “There’s a big part of me that probably would just be doing nothing. That’s about it.” Asmongold emphasized his interest in autonomy and freedom in being able to do what he wants whenever he wants to as his logic behind doing nothing if Twitch wasn’t an option.
Twitch was Asmongold’s attempt at earning money while remaining at home in a pivot that he suggested wasn’t much different from living off government money. “I had to find someone else to give me money, and that’s you guys. I had to switch things up a little bit, but not that much.” Because Asmongold has remained popular on Twitch despite taking multiple breaks, this audience has ensured Asmongold can remain at home as long as he wants to.
Twitch viewership continued to rise throughout 2021 over previous years, suggesting that Twitch’s Asmongold will continue to earn revenue from his fanbase rather than the government. It’s currently unclear what activities Asmongold has been afforded the opportunity to do because of his employment status, but it’s likely that his Twitch popularity led to founding the One True King organization. Other popular streamers on the team include Mizkif, Esfand, and the new OTK addition Emiru who all stream on Twitch regularly.
